Do to major problem with my knees and many surgeries, I never completed my college education at Sheridan. I went on the road with a band from Oshawa for 3 years, playing all over Ontario before moving back to Niagara, living in Welland and played bass guitar in a few local bands for about 15 years. Lots Has Been Happening

Hello Everyone

It has been some time since I have updated my blog and I apologize. Times have been busy for me.

This coming Thursday I will be completeing my training for employment with Weight Watchers. I am soooooooo enjoying the work. I really think I have found my calling, being able to assist others with their weight loss journey. It is very rewarding.
For now, I will work as a receptionist and in the near future, I plan on taking the Leadership Training to become a meetings leader.

This morning I had a phone call from the surgeon who replaced my knee. Now for a little background on the knee replacement before I continue.

3 years ago this past March, I had my left knee replaced. I was almost at my highest weight at the time of the surgery, around 280 pounds. The surgeon told me I was at high risk for deep vein thrombosis (blood clots) and deep bone infection. If the latter happened, I could have lost my leg. He was also concerned as I did not have any knee cap and there was a good chance the knee just wouldnt work that well. I had been in terrific pain since my 20's and I was willing to take the risk. The surgery went without incident and I spent the next 4 or 5 days in the hospital. The swelling was unbelievable but I persisted, doing what the therapists and docs and nurses told me to do. It was very hard to walk due to my weight and the fact the other knee has to be done as well. I was sent home with instruction and proceeded to do what I needed to do. About a week after I got home, the swelling was getting worse. It was to the point I thought my leg and foot would explode from the pressure and there was pain. I returned back to the hospital and they did an ultrasound. Due to my size, it was very hard for them to see the deep veins, but they were pretty sure I had a blood clot. I was put on some medication and returned home.

Things were going pretty well, but due to my size, the recovery was slow. 6 months after the surgery, I was in a pretty bad car accident and it set my recovery back quite a bit but I persisted. I joined Weight Watchers Feb 1, 2007. I saw the surgeon March 2007 and he was pleased with my progress and said unless something happened, I would see him in 2 years, March 2009.

So, this past March, I saw him, almost 3 years from the date of the surgery. He looked at the knee x-ray, looked at me and did this a few times and then said...."OK, "I'd know that knee x-ray anywhere but who are you?" I laughed, stood up and he was absolutely blown away with my accomplishment. I told him a very short recap of my journey to date and he somehow wanted to showcase this.

So today, I received a phone call from him personally. I have been asked to be a guest speaker at an Orthoplasty Conference/Seminar in September on all that weight loss can do for a person who had little chance of the surgery working and everything I couldn't do before, that I can do know. He is just so proud of me and wants people to hear my story.

I was totally blown away by this, and very honoured to be asked to do this.

So between now and September, I have to write about a 10 minute speech to go along with a slideshow presentation of my before and after journey and present it! I am sooooooooo excited!

This week I will be completing my training as a receptionist for Weight Watchers and start work next week. After a period of time as a receptionist, I will take the Leader training and become a Leader.

My life could not be better right now and I owe it all to my hard work and Weight Watchers!
